Rough terrain is about to get a whole lot smoother. MACK is set to release an innovative new range of safety footwear worn to perform in rough terrain with the aim of reducing injuries in the workplace and improving productivity. Ankle sprains and strains are common workplace injuries in industries where workers are exposed to rough terrain. The MACK product development team has spent the past few years working with health and safety personnel of leading industrial companies throughout Australia to gain a comprehensive understanding of their injury profiles and bio-mechanical requirements in the workplace. This extensive consultation process has led to the design and development of the innovative ADAPT™ range of composite toe safety footwear specifically designed to improve adaption to rough terrain.
The paradigm-changing ADAPT™ range from MACK has been designed with the performance requirements of the foot and ankle on rough terrain as the core design principle. "The design and development process of the ADAPT™ range has considered the footwear as a complete structure, rather than developing each individual component separately, this ensures harmonised function from the foot to the ground,” says Dr Caleb Wegener, Footwear Research and Innovation.
The ADAPT™ sole unit and upper designs have independent areas of both flexibility and stability based on the specific foot and ankle requirements during each phase of the walking cycle. The lightweight designs of the ADAPT™ range also assist in minimizing fatigue at both the localized muscle level and generalized worker fatigue helping to improve workplace safety and productivity.
The ADAPT™ range consists of five styles that are targeted to a cross section of roles and occupations that are exposed to uneven terrain.
The safety footwear industry is set to change this year with MACK launching new innovative footwear across multiple application requirements, the ADAPT™ range is just the beginning of what’s to come from MACK in 2016.
